Students and teachers at a Massachusetts piano school recital

For 30 years, I have taught piano to students of all ages and skill levels across the United States and China. My core teaching philosophy is to help students play with physical ease and expressive musicality.  By combining a strong foundation in note reading, structural analysis, and stylistic understanding with healthy body alignment and solid technical mechanics, I guide each student toward effortless, tension-free performance.  Whether working with beginners building foundational skills or advanced pianists refining repertoire, my goal is to cultivate confident, independent musicianship.  Lessons are available in English and Mandarin.

Teachers

I have been teaching piano for 25 years in the Boston area.  As well as teaching the foundations of note reading and technique I strive to have my students understand the language of music and be able to express something meaningful in their performances.  My focus is classical piano; and I also have experience with jazz, rock, pop, improvisation and composition.

I am an active performer as soloist and chamber musician and am a member of the Thoreau Piano Trio.  I currently perform with contemporary music ensembles Boston New Music Initiative and Warebrook Contemporary Music festival.  In collaboration with cellist/composer Nick Dinnerstein, we have released an album Dream Loop Spells which can be found here:
