Medford
I have been teaching piano for 20 years in the Boston area and Michigan. As well as teaching the foundations of note reading and technique I strive to have my students understand the language of music and be able to express something meaningful in their performances. My focus is classical piano; and I also incorporate jazz, improvisation, rock and pop music if students are interested.
I am an active performer as soloist and chamber musician and am a member of the Thoreau Piano Trio. My recent performances outside the Boston area include chamber music festivals in Vermont and Michigan, as well as performances in North Carolina (UNC), and New York City (Lincoln Center and Queens Library). I have been teaching piano both in the United States and China for the last 25 years. The main focus of my teaching is to help my students play the piano with ease, both musically and physically. Building from basic note reading to understanding structures and styles, combined with a good body alignment and solid technique, students at any level will learn to play with a free musical expression. I teach in fluent English and Mandarin.
